The Problem:

Usually we assume that problems such as environmental pollution and contamination are basically problems to be resolved by environmental scientists. Similarly, when it comes to make our environment and surroundings neat and clean, we look towards governmental authorities and sanitary departments to do the required job.

Apart from general people, people belonging to different specialized fields and professions are mostly occupied in dealing with their own concerns. Being a creative thinker, here I am not supposed to disregard professional obligations or totally ignore the given jobs whatsoever.

But, what I mean is to devise such creative ways and means so as to deal with global crisis (e.g. environmental pollution) by remaining in your own speciality and professional orbit. Fashion designers are not supposed to tackle the issues of environmental pollution but still they have to take their due part whatever best can be done through fashion designing and tailoring.

Following is the idea that could be the start of the above as whether you are an auto-pilot, nurse, policeman or a fashion designer, your responsibilities are not over being a part of this global society.

The Idea:

What we have to do is to include a ‘Trash Pocket’ in our normal dresses that would be used to put small trash like chewing gum, wrappers etc. instead of throwing away in our surroundings. A number of questions may be asked to reason the logic of having a designated trash pocket in our dresses as we normally put the small trash in any of our pocket. Another question arises that why to put a trash pocket in our dresses as dustbins are everywhere to serve the very purpose. For many a people, trash pocket might be a denigration of the fashion itself

To clarify the logic of putting a separate trash pocket in our dresses, we first try to understand the severity of the problem related with environmental cleanliness. Repeating my words, it’s not only responsibility of our governments to clean up the surroundings whereas its citizens act like bystanders watching the whole cleaning drive at their street corners. In fact, this is a very simple idea that will always work as an environmental reminder to every man and woman of human society living in any part of the world.

Besides our dresses, trash pockets could be given their due places inside our traveling bags, briefcases, purse and wallets and suitcases etc. Trash pockets could be sewn into the cloth at the front side of the shirt or backside of the trousers or it could be also put at the outer surface of your fabric as well. Trash pocket can be disposable or as an inseparable part of your dress. The choice is up to you. Traditional pocket of your dresses can be also designated as trash pocket but behind all of these so simple: “There must be a space in your outfits specially given to remind your social and environmental responsibilities”.

Without any doubt, trash pockets could be utilized as design and business initiatives as well. It all depends on how smartly and innovatively our fashion and dress designers opt to make the most of this unique idea. Trash Pocket, being a new term in clothing and fashion industry, is still enough to highlight the importance of the issue. For the fashion world, the idea of having a compulsory trash pocket also refers to “corporate social responsibility”.
