Creative Ideas for Gender Streaming

By Faizan Usmani This post presents many workable ideas and suggestions to promote gender streaming which, at the moment, requires some creative thoughts as well besides massive funding and widespread awareness made through mass media. Gender-based employees’ referral programmes: Gender-based referral programmes should be started in both government and private sectors whereas all female and male employees will be paid incentives to bring other women through their own references into the organisation. This programme will be effective especially for men who always negatively consider female employees depriving them of employment opportunities. But, under this programme, men will do their level best to bring women staff into their organisation as bringing women folk will give them extra incentives other than monthly salary. This will also help reduce incidents of sexual harassment at workplace as no man will feel confidence in doing the offense with people who already know them very well. An organisational culture enriched with mutual care and fraternity will take place as a result of initiating gender-based employees’ referral programmes. Customised working shift for women: In manufacturing units, there are usually three shifts – A, B and C. In our environment and existing law and order situation, B and C shifts – usually held in evenings and nights – are not suitable for women thus in all working units, we can reserve A shift – morning shift – for women only. We can also design a customised shift for women according to the prevalent social and cultural settings. Adjusting the salary issue: Salaries of the women should be kept a bit low as compared to male working in the same positions. By this way, employers will go to recruit more women than men for the same positions as industrialists never leave any opportunity which brings to them any sort

The Very First Solution for Crisis Management at the Governmental Level!

A Volunteer Government By Faizan Usmani The Idea: As an initial and one of the basic solutions to deal with national concerns such as lack of financial resources, poverty, unemployment and the like, the best measure could be taken by any government of third world is to stop offering any kind of monetary awards in terms of salary, bonuses, various allowances etc to all provincial and national parliamentarians including ministers, prime minister and president. These all jobs will be done on volunteer basis only and its time for all our leaders to prove their patriotism with motherland. As per this suggestion, all expenses of assembly members and ministers will be paid by the political party or group they are attached with. Or else, they may be allowed to work part time for any other organization to earn their own livelihood. In short, we can not tolerate any more burdens on our economy and anyone willing to provide possible relief by any viable means should be always welcomed. Our government as well as opposition needs pure VOLUNTEERS from head to toe. It's high time to act now rather than expecting the nation to kill itself for the sake of their leaders. The Problem: With respect to status of crisis management in developing countries (such as Pakistan, India, Bangladesh etc.), no extensive studies and relevant researches have been conducted so far by any local or international research institution but considering the existing conditions in severely affected areas that include all social, economical and political disasters of the country, it can be easily claimed that overall situation about highly-effective and proficient crisis management is quite pathetic in many countries. On organizational level, the term "crisis management" is generally referred to a well-prepared plan of action that is implemented when any negative situation occurs

How to win war against terrorism

By Faizan Usmani In my columns chiefly written on War on Terrorism from 26th September to 9th October 2008 in The Financial Daily, I have proposed a number of ideas that may mitigate the threats of ongoing militancy on the name of the religion. By the same token, this blog also entails some of the basic solutions that should be considered by anti-terror committee. We may successfully cope with war on terrorism. We urgently need out-of-the-box ideas as wars are won not by deadly weapons, but through smart strategies. For this purpose: Renewal of ID cards: All tribal people should be asked to renew their ID cards within month. The process of renewing expired ID cards will help us somehow to churn out foreign people living in tribal areas under the guise of Pakistani people. Mandatory display of ID cards: It should be mandatory for all people in war-torn areas to display ID cards attached with a neckwear ribbon all the time that could be easily spotted and authenticated by any security personnel when needed. Thus, putting a mandatory ID cards condition will discourage militants to some extent. Putting temporary restrictions on tribal lifestyle: By the same token, a lot more initiatives are required by Pakistani officials regarding regulating the worsening law and order situation inside tribal areas, and it could be easily done by putting some restrictions on the present lifestyle of tribal people just for a temporary period. It has reported in all major newspapers that anti-Pakistan foreign-based secret agents are living in tribal areas by following the same lifestyle and speaking the same language as our tribal people do. Identify the real enemy: The wide presence of unknown enemies inside our tribal areas is of much help for enemies to destabilise the peaceful conditions in these areas,
